Day 1 Speed Trials

Registration continued in the morning with more than 80 riders in total. The day was blessed by better than expected winds allowing all categories of riders to complete the race event.

The day started off with Dominique Granger coming in first of the womens final heat. Dominique was also one of the top fundraisers, raising over $870. The finals of the pro division was a grand spectacle with the riders and spectators alike running to the finish to cheer on Jan Marcos Rivera, the winner. Men from USA, Spain, Mexico, Estonia, Canada, and Domincan Republic competed in heat after heat in the open division with Eli Saul, a Cabarete local, taking the first place.
In the 14 and under division, 14 year old Nico Suriel, another Cabarete local, took the top place.
Local riders without kites were given a special chance to compete through kites donated by Slingshot Sports. Cosmic Kites from New York as well as fellow riders lent their kites to local riders as well adding to the camaraderie between fellow riders.
Despite so many riders and heats, the organizers were relieved that no injuries were reported except for loss of voice of Laurel Eastman the fabulously enthusiastic MC of the event
Registration continues Saturday for the Junior and Womens Big Air/Best Trick contest, at the beautiful Bozo Beach Cabarete.
