KB4K Another Huge Success

The last day wind was very light and onshore. The women became the test riders for the conditions going out first. They quickly realized that just staying upwind was going to be a challenge. Decision was made to send the juniors out.  The junior big air heats turned out to be a thrilling spectacle for the crowd with the riders throwing tricks right in front at times complicated by tangled lines.

Jan Marcos Riveras, the current Wave-riding World Champion, was tirelessly encouraging and coaching the junior riders. The winner was  tiny Abraham Sanchez whose victory was greeted with the other riders raising him on their shoulders.

The final evening festivities took place at Bambu restaurant/bar. At the beginning of the evening a check for $500 was presented to the family of Carlos, a fellow Dominican kiter who died recently. This was followed by a heavy moment of silence.
Representatives of local charities were on hand to accept the checks from the fundraising effort of everyone. The crowd recognized the selfless work of the charities for the benefit of kids in DR with applause.

This years top junior fundraiser was Sophie Park, 12 year old from New Jersey who raised over $5000! The top fundraiser this year again was Dale Mitchell, who raised $4025 to take home the top prize of a week stay in a luxury beachfront villa in Bozo Beach.

The winners of the competition were rewarded with kites from Slingshot, Best and Core Ktes and board from EH and harnesses from Dakine as well as many other prizes. One smiling junior kiter was given a kite for best attitude!

The event was s tremendous success with the fundraising exceeding goal of $20,000 with current total of $21,257.  The locals showed their gratitude with hugs to all the volunteers and fundraisers.

Everyone expressed their hope for even bigger success for 2011.
